Pair of rare antique French cobalt blue decorative glass vases, hand blown in the 19th century with intense deep blue pigmentation, ideal for large sculptural glass decor, French country decor, and bold statement vases for interiors. These tall vessels were originally produced as apothecary or chemical jars, using cobalt oxide to achieve their saturated colour and to protect stored contents from light exposure. The thickness variations around the mouth and trapped bubbles enhance their antique authenticity and confirm 19th century hand blown craftsmanship, consistent with early glassblowing methods of the 1800s.

France was a major centre for coloured utilitarian glass in the 19th century, producing heavy cobalt vessels for pharmacies, chemical workshops, and household storage. These pieces, blown individually by glassworkers, often show subtle asymmetry at the rim, pockets of density variation in the glass, and small air inclusions. The rich cobalt depth in these vases is achieved through minerals historically known as smalt and cobalt oxide, materials prized for producing UV-resistant surfaces that shielded liquids and powders from light.

Today, these glass vessels function beautifully as large decorative vases, French country decor accents, contemporary rustic decor pieces, Mediterranean decor, or organic modern display objects. Their striking colour brings strong visual impact to console tables, kitchen islands, shelves, or entryways. Styled with branches, tall grasses, or simply left empty, they serve as sculptural focal points that blend antique character with modern interior design.
