Antique XL French terracotta tian bowl from Provence, dating to the early 1900s. A decorative bowl with a rich amber brown glazed interior and fine hand-applied yellow concentric bands and a freehand undulating border, while the exterior remains natural terracotta with visible throwing rings. Rim chips, glaze losses, abrasions, and exposed clay at the interior center preserve its richly aged surface through generations of use. 

Handcrafted using time-honored techniques, this piece is known as a “tian” or “terrine”, referring to the traditional earthenware bowls used in Southern France for mixing, baking, marinating, and slow-cooked dishes. The rough, textured base, left unglazed, is a hallmark of authentic French farmhouse pottery, allowing the piece to dry properly after firing and providing a stable surface for kitchen work.
