Antique terracotta water jug, northern Spanish botijo, and early 20th century folk pottery with a rounded body, arched handle, filling mouth, and narrow drinking spout. This hand painted glazed botijo is made in red terracotta with a glossy chestnut brown glaze across the upper half, a raw unglazed lower body, and yellow painted scalloped bands and linear decoration typical of traditional Spanish country ceramic.
Made in northern Spain, this Spanish botijo belongs to the long tradition of porous clay vessels used to keep water cool. The form combines practical function with strong regional pottery character: a broad shoulder, two-opening structure, attached handle, and partial glaze that leaves the lower body breathable and textural. The yellow painted border and warm clay tones give the piece a clear folk pottery identity without losing its utilitarian origin.
Today this antique water jug works as a decorative vessel, table centerpiece, or sculptural accent for Mediterranean decor, farmhouse decor, and wabi sabi decor. It also fits naturally into vintage home decor, open kitchen shelving, and pottery displays where aged terracotta, hand painted surfaces, and traditional Spanish craft bring warmth and material depth.
