This rare large antique French Quimper vase is made of heavy earthenware and dates to the mid century modern era (circa 1950s–1960s). Crafted from terracotta and hand painted in ochre, cobalt blue, and white, it features geometric Breton motifs with a sculptural modernist form.
By the early 1950s, Quimper ateliers were influenced by Breton heritage and modern design, often grouped under the Quimper Modernist School. This period saw modernist ceramics influenced by mid century Scandinavian ceramics and Picasso Vallauris. The piece bears a handwritten signature on the underside, confirming authentic Quimper workshop origin.
Collectors prize rare Quimper Modernist works like this for their avantgarde design. Ideal as a decorative vase, sculptural accent, or statement piece for Mid Century Modern Decor, Wabi Sabi Decor, Japandi decor, Mediterranean Decor, or Organic Modern spaces.
